I think that the relationship between luminosity and distance is rather like throwing a ball. As the ball (light rays) goes further, it will lose force (L.U.X.). However, by throwing the ball harder, (by increasing the wattage) you can send it a greater distance at a greater force. (However, with light, it will continue moving, simply at an extremely low L.U.X.
